Fred Blank, D.O. has been a Board Certified Optician in the state of Florida for many years. He graduated from Hillsborough Community College in 1975, with an AS degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing. Fred has also been a long time member of the advisory committee for the same Opticianry Program. He currently is serving as Chairman, which he has done for the past several years.
He has a diverse background in the optical field, working for Independents, Chains, and Ophthalmology practices, as well as a large lens manufacturer, as the Quality Assurance Supervisor. He has owned a Retail Optical, in Clearwater, Florida. Fred has always had an interest in helping those with Low Vision. For twelve plus years, he either worked full time or part time with Magnifying Studios Incorporated. He helped people to maintain their Visual Independence, through the use of Video Magnifiers. As rewarding as it was, he never lost his desire to stay current and helping people with their eyewear needs. Hundreds of hours of continuing education and contacts in the Optical community keeps Fred current, with the latest technologies and fashion trends in the Optical field.
In the past he has been very active with Professional Opticians of Florida serving on the (POF) State Board and as president of the local chapter, Fred was also honored by his peers both locally and at the state level as the "Optician of the Year" in 1990/1991. current and past affiliations include American Board of Opticianry (ABO), Opticians Association of America (OAA), Association of Professional Scholastic Opticians (APSO) and other societies and organizations.
Mr. Blank lives in New Port Richey. Florida with his wife, Peggy. He tries to make time to ride his bicycle. He enjoys planning vacations and spending time on the weekends with his wife, and cat, Jazz.
